Up until 1925 the area that is now The Aber Falls Tavern was just a field with a shippon for animals, on the sale of Aber, the field was bought by three sisters Miss Jones, Mrs. Hughs, and Mrs. Field, they had the building put up and called it the Aber Falls Halt.

They traded for a number of years. It then passed to their cousin a Mr. Suttcliffe who ran it until the early 1970’s, it was a very posh establishment by all accounts. It was where the parents of the girls of St. Winifred’s would come to have tea as it was not a licensed property, then in the early 1970’s it was sold to Mr Shelmerdine and he had a drinks license put on the property much against the wishes of the village judging by the number of complaints that were received and then in 1982 it was sold to Mr Hancock it was closed for a while and then brought by Mrs A Andrews in 1988 and then sold to a Mr D Swinburn 1989 he then sold it in 1990 to Mr & Mrs P Smillie. again it was closed for a while In 1999 Mr & Mrs Jones brought it and then sold on in 2000 to Mrs M Lovesy.

We were in the process of selling the Hotel and we tried as hard as we could to get over all the hurdles that were put in our way so we could sell the Hotel to Hotel chain from Manchester and the village would still have a Public house to go to all be it part of a travel lodge, but as the down turn hit harder and harder, it became to difficult. It is now just an empty shell, a wreck that will need far to much doing to it to make it usable again, at least it wont get people riding round it on motor bikes as happened after Mr Andrews had it.
