The Cafe

The Cafe has been a successful collaboration of many of the local residents such as Mr. Hywel Thomas Arfon senior planning officer who was in no small way able to steer the project ( as a consultant in the early stages)through the planning stage with the very able support of the local councilor Mr. Jones a formidable team. The planning stage is the undoing of many such projects. Mr. Walter Bain who was responsible for the mountain of paper work had to sadly leave the village before he could see the fruits of his labour. Mrs. Lovesy of the Aber Falls Tavern were all of the committee meetings were held and caterd for prior to the completion of the project and her assistance with information on what kitchen equipment to buy.

The Hardened reporter for a local paper who went to do the “Tastes Test” at the cafe said that she would have willingly paid double for her parties meal. The fair was so good and so well presented so please support a local business. What a shame that such a popular place has been sited were there is no car parking space which gives many of the residents a lot of inconvenience.

The reporters quote “Then we asked for the bill. A whole £22.50. Are you sure? I asked. It sounded half what I was expecting. But no, as with everything else, they had got the adding up right too. I've been served so much rubbishy food by surly staff in uninspiring surroundings, at rip-off prices, that I almost punched the air in delight.”

A cafe that serves nice food in friendly surroundings that's benefiting the people who live nearby? What more could you ask?

Worth breaking a rule for, you would have to agree.

A £302,408 community centre which will create two new jobs locally is to be officially opened at the Old Mill at Abergwyngregyn on Saturday, 3 March by Betty Williams MP. The Abergwyngregyn Regeneration Company secured £131,204 of Objective 1 funding towards purchasing and renovating the derelict building situated at the centre of the village. The centre will provide Abergwyngregyn with a wide-range of leisure facilities, including a community activities room, a café and visitor information point, and a new snooker club. Councilor Dafydd Iwan, who leads on Development on Gwynedd Council said: “The renovated Old Mill at Abergwyngregyn is an excellent example of what can be achieved when communities work together to develop projects that respond to the needs of local people.” “Tribute must be paid to the Gwynedd Economic Partnership, its members, successful applicants and the officers from Gwynedd Council for the efficient work which has been achieved throughout the County in order to ensure the success of the Objective 1 programme locally.” Gavin Gatehouse, Chair of the Abergwyngregyn Regeneration Company said that the new centre will be a valuable asset to the residents of the village as well as providing a café and information point for the many thousands of visitors to the Aber Falls who pass through the village every year. “We are delighted at the completion of the Old Mill Project; the new Community Room provides much needed focus for the whole village and is already is use.
