In this Picture dated 1797 painted By Rowlandson you can see the old bridge just to the left of the house. The house was the old Smithey. It is now two very smart houses it was rebuilt in about 1948. In the engraving below is the old bridge, you can see Pen y Bryn middle left, the Smithy is on the right hand side of the bridge, this engraving is said to be from 1880 but I think that it is from earlier, the road way curves up the village and a stage coach can be seen crossing the foreground. The remains of this bridge can be seen in the field on the left of the present day bridge the other end is under the cottage opposite also the river is not contained into the channel it is today.
